To make the Hoppy Birthday Bag, basically do this: Fold in half on fold line, fold sides in toward the “© Moms Break” on the marked lines, tape side shut, fill, fold top down and tape closed. This bag is very simple to make, however we do recommend reading the more detailed directions shown below.

These are more detailed step-by-step instructions:

1. Fold bag on the line marked number 1. Note that the bag might not fold exactly in the middle of the page depending on printer setting; however it is recommended that you use the fold line.
2. Lay the bag so that “© by MomsBreak.com or licensors. Terms see MomsBreakInc.com” is face up.
3. Fold the two lines marked number 2 inward. Tape or glue these side tabs.
4. Fill the bag with your bag fillers (i.e., candy, party favors, gift card, etc.).
5. Fold down remaining top flap (marked number 3) to close the bag. Tape or glue closed. Note that you may have to fold over the ends of both sides of the bag, depending on how the bag prints on your printer. Tape or glue the folded-over flap to close the bag.

Special Notes:
* Remember when using glue to allow the glue time to dry between steps.
* Printer types and settings do vary. These instructions should provide enough information for folding and closing the bag. However, it always best to do one test print and fold before printing several bags.

You can find a tutor for folding this bag at Jan’s Reading Room bag tutor which is valentine but the same principle applies. There is also how to fold video tutor offer by Moms Break, this is a holiday tutor but the same principle applies.

----------------------------

Section 1

Two game sets of game instructions for young children and older kids are provided.

Gather birthday items or birthday party theme items small enough to fit loosely into the Birthday bag. See the “Theme Party Ideas” section for ideas.

Depending on how many Birthday items you have decided to use, print the same number of Hoppy Birthday Bags. (Optional: You can print a variety of bags offered at Moms Break to have different bags for different birthday items.) Assemble the bags and before inserting the items, write a number on each bag. Then make a list of what is in each bag (such as, Bag #1: balloon, Bag #2: birthday candle). This will be the “answer key” to use at the end of the game.

Put the one item(s) in each bag; add a small bit of confetti (alternative: use cotton balls for less mess, pull apart a cotton ball), or shredded paper in the bag and seal. This will make it harder for the kids to guess what is in the bag.

Older Kids: At the Birthday party give each guest a piece of paper and pen. Pass the bags around, one at a time, and have each child write down their guess of what is in the bag. * This is also a fun game to play at home with your kids – Just for fun or a spelling lesson!

After all the bags are passed around and everyone has written down their guesses, use the answer key to call out the item in each bag. Have the guests (children) score their own guesses. The game winner is the person who has the most correct guesses.

As an alternative for younger kids (but also suitable for older kids) have enough Moms Break birthday bags for each child to win a few bags. Have the children get in a circle, then have the children take turns going to the center of the room where game parent or birthday kid will be seated to hand out bags, one bag to each. If the child can guess what in the bag, he or she can keep it. If not, then the next child comes into the circle to guess what’s in the bag. (Hint: If a one or more of the children {guests} is having trouble winning a bag, make sure to hand them something easy to guess like a birthday candle or toy figurine.) To shorten the game, after each child has won a bag or two, simply pass out the rest of the bags as prizes for other games or party favors.

----------------------------

Section 4

Easy & Cheap Birthday Suggestions: (Most of these items should be available at your local Dollar Store. Tip: Print a test bag and take it with you so that you can tell if the items will fit in the bag.)
Balloons, deflated (not blown up)
Noise makers
Small paper party hats that can be folded to fit in the bag
Crayons
Sidewalk chalk
Silly Putty
Stickers
Small toys (suitable for boys and girls)
Small cartoon action figures (buy a whole bag of assorted plastic toys and put one or two in each bag. Example: Dinosaur theme birthday party, buy a bag of assorted dinosaurs at the dollar store.)

----------------------------

Section 5

“Decorate the Cake” Birthday Party Game Suggestions: (Hint: Print and assemble a test bag to make sure each item fits in the bag. Then print as many bags as you need, one bag per item.)
For this game, have a flat sheet cake with only white frosting on it. Assemble cake decorating items, including the candles, and put in the birthday bags:
Small tubes of colored icing
Bottles of sprinkles
Other cake decoration items
Birthday cake candles

Play a simple game where everybody wins a prize. After everyone opens their prize bag, let the kids decorate the cake as a Birthday Party activity! (Have old towels and wooden clothespins available to pin “smocks” on all the kids before they start decorating the cake.)

----------------------------

Section 6:

Regular Party Favors: The Birthday Bags are also fun for regular party favors to put on the table for each child while having cake and ice cream. They are also great for giving each child a party gift at the end of the party. This would be a great way to teach your birthday boy or girl about saying “Thank you” as each guest leaves the party. (Hint: Print and assemble a test bag to make sure each item fits in the bag. Then print as many bags as you need, one bag per item.)
